  • Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) create three-way partnerships between graduates, leading businesses and the University to solve real world problems.

  • Students make use of virtual learning environments, such as the Virtual Case Creator for our Health students, the School of Law’s Virtual Solicitors’ Office and the School of Education and Social Work’s virtual school, Green Moor Primary School.

  • The University’s Moodle online learning environment provides online access to resources and flexible approaches to learning.

  • Our Skills Practice and Care Enhancement (SPACE) area gives Health students a safe and supportive environment to practise over 60 clinical skills procedures outside of lecture time.
  • Our Sports Department has partnerships with professional athletes and sports teams including Warwickshire County Cricket Club, with players coming in to use our facilities.
 
INVESTMENT
 
  • The £62 million Parkside Building at the City Centre Campus provides a home for design-related courses as well as state-of-the art media facilities (Curzon Street Studios), with four industry-standard TV studios featuring the latest Sony equipment and a ‘green screen’ MILO studio.
  • The £63 million Curzon Building – Phase 2 of the City Centre Campus development – provides teaching space for Birmingham City Business School, the School of English, the School of Law and the School of Social Sciences, together with a new library, IT space and other student support facilities.
  • A £57 million home for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire opened at our City Centre Campus in autumn 2017. The new Conservatoire is a unique contemporary building, incorporating five public performance spaces including a 500-seat concert hall (The Bradshaw Hall) for orchestral training and performance, private rehearsal and practice rooms, and teaching spaces for musicians from a variety of disciplines.
  • Our health courses are taught in the £30 million Seacole Building, where state-of-the-art facilities include a simulated operating theatre and hospital wards, a fully-equipped birthing room, a simulated home environment and a fully-functional radiography suite and 3D imaging diagnostic suite.
  • A further £41 million investment in our City South Campus has seen the creation of specialist laboratories for our new courses in sport and life sciences, and a new home for our Education courses, which opened in 2018.
  • Our facilities in Millennium Point have undergone a £6.5million investment with a new maker area, engineering labs/equipment and IT equipment.
  • An £8.5 million sports centre at the City North Campus includes an 80-station fitness suite and eight-court sports hall.
 
FACILITIES
 
  • Our libraries provide access to over 135 million resources including books, journal articles, e-book chapters and conference proceedings.
  • Free wireless access across the University for staff, students and visitors.
  • Four TV studios, all operating industry-standard tapeless digital workflow. Three studios are complete with the latest Sony Broadcast systems for live/recorded multi-camera production. All studios can work together and also use other spaces within the building such as the lecture theatre and the roof garden as external studio floors. Studio A, at just over 2,000 sq ft, is in the top 15 largest studios in the country; Studio B, at 2,100 sq ft, is one of the largest fixed green screen studios in the UK and features a MILO motion control camera. There are 25 post production channels with a full sound dubbing theatre and film grading suites.
  • Six radio studios can work independently, or be linked together to form a radio station. It is possible to get audio from any part of our media building.
  • Birmingham City Business School enjoys cutting-edge facilities, including our CITY Trading Room (using the same investment analysis software as traders, financial analysts and decision makers in the investment industry) and our student-run, in-house marketing agency The Link (where you can sharpen your skills with briefs and projects from leading businesses and organisations such as Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Serco and Cure Leukaemia).
  • Our Law School is home to a mock Crown Court and Magistrates’ Court, giving you the chance to practise your skills in a realistic environment replicating those encountered at the top levels of the British legal system.
  • Our Psychology courses employ the latest in psychological testing equipment, including eye tracking and EEG scanners.
  • Health students learn in cutting-edge, simulated environments that are vital for developing the skills required in the health and social care sector including simulated hospital wards, birthing rooms with birthing pool, home environment room, operating theatre, visual rehabilitation kitchen, and radiography suites.
  • New facilities for Sport and Life Sciences include dedicated physiology and biomechanics laboratory, a specialist bioscience lab, nutrition labs, sports therapy clinics and a sports performance centre.
  • Our new Education facilities include mock classrooms and a gymnasium.
  • Music students get to perform in our own venues such as the Recital Hall, as well as prestigious venues around the city like Symphony Hall. Our new Conservatoire building has five state-of-the-art performance venues including a 500-seat concert hall (The Bradshaw Hall) and a dedicated jazz club.
  • Birmingham School of Art is based in a Grade I listed building in Birmingham city centre, complete with light and airy studios, gallery and installation space, a fine art library and workshops for wood, metal, plaster, fibreglass, ceramics, digital media, print and photography.
  • The School of Jewellery’s multi-award winning building houses an array of workshops in addition to its outstanding atrium gallery space. Its Digital Technology Hub houses industry standard 3D printing and laser technologies, enabling the creation of complex jewellery and horological items.
  • The Gemmology department of the School of Jewellery has moved into a fully equipped, purpose built area within Birmingham’s new Assay Office which provides an ideal location for our specialist laboratory for analysis and valuation of gemstones.
 
ACCOMMODATION
 
  • Typical cost of university/college accommodation starts at £122.50 per week (2019/20 prices)
  • Over 2,000 well-equipped rooms; rent includes heating and water. Every student room in halls has internet access.
  • A place in halls is guaranteed if you have a firm offer, live over 10 miles from your place of study and apply before the deadline provided.
  • Over 650 students are accommodated right next to our City Centre Campus in the new University Locks development.
  • Our Students’ Union’s own lettings agency, Birmingham City Student Homes, provides access to a range of safe and secure private rented properties in the city.
