Over £1billion is being invested in exciting projects across the city, from the ‘Northern Spire’, an iconic new bridge across the River Wear and a vibrant Cultural Quarter near City Campus, to attractive public spaces and seafront landscaping. And with even more ambitious plans in the pipeline, this really is Sunderland’s moment.
We share our coast with both South Tyneside and Durham’s Heritage Coast, where you can see stunning coastal wildlife as well as the beautiful countryside of Northumberland, Country Durham and the North Yorkshire Moors.
Beyond the beach, the city has acres of green space including local and country parks, and wildlife reserves such as Rainton Meadows and Washington Wetland Centre. So you’ll always find somewhere to explore.
